About IMIN
The Indiana Media Industry Network (IMIN) is a coalition of Indiana-based film, video and music production company owners, freelancers, educators, independent filmmakers, suppliers, talent and supporters. We have joined together to promote the interests of Indiana's media production industry. And we are dedicated to pursuing the best-possible climate for growing Indiana's media industry.
IMIN Objectives:
- To work for media production incentives and public policies that make sense for Indiana and foster more production jobs and business opportunities.
- To live up to the "network" in our name by providing media production industry professionals from throughout the state and from different corners of the industry opportunities to find each other.
- To foster awareness of the importance of the industry to policymakers, the business community, and the public at large, and to create awareness of Indiana's assets to the outside world.
What We Do
IMIN members play key roles on the Indiana Economic Development Corp. (IEDC) Film Task Force, the successor of the Indiana Film Commission.
IMIN sponsors mixers, events and social events. Click on Events to see what's happening.
IMIN's members have been in front of the Indiana Legislature since 2004. Grassroots and professional lobbying have resulted in passage of these incentives:
- Film, video and music production & production-related companies are eligible for the Hoosier Business Investment Tax Credit (HBITC). (2005)
- State & State-university owned property is available for location shooting without location fees. (2005)
- Starting January 1, 2007, feature films and television programs are exempt from paying sales tax on many goods and rentals used in production. (2006)
The 2007 general assembly considered HB 1388, which expanded the sales tax exemption to digital media and advertising production; proposes a rebate for in-state production and hiring costs; and tweaks the HBITC. Unfortunately, Governor Mitch Daniels vetoed the legislation. See the News and the legislation sections for all the latest information about the legislation.
